The Savannah River at Augusta, from Picturesque America c.1874

This engraving well illustrates Shultz's career, beginning with the pole boats in the foreground, followed by his great Augusta Bridge with its diagonal trusses behind the steamboats standing at a wharf. Finally, the South Carolina Rail Road extended the commercial success of his town of Hamburg, but construction of the covered railroad bridge in the background brought this success to a sudden halt.
